"I love working for GPS because I have the best of both worlds - variety and continuity! My usual week involves me working one day at my ordinary place of work, and for two days GPS assigned me to a PCN on a long-term contract. On my fourth and final day,GPS assigns me to a different practice every week. The variety of work and the ability to exercise hybrid working is simply the best".

National recruitment drive

General Practice Solutions (GPS) is continuing to expand its workforce and requires a range of General Practice Specialist Associates (GPSAs) all over the United Kingdom to help deliver expert support.

How GPS operates

GPS operates under a multiple provision framework aligned to the needs of our clients, and these include:

  • We are a national company and assist Primary Care Networks (PCNs), practices and other primary care providers all over the UK.
  • We are market leading on the provision of professionals who fall under the umbrella of NHS England’s ‘Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme’ (ARRS).
  • We provide PCNs & their constituent practices with ARRS staffing solutions.
  • We are considered a one-stop-shop for General Practice Support & offer an innovative GP management model.
  • We can harmonise our clients existing management structures.
  • We provide interim General Practice Staff on a short, medium, and long-term basis.
  • We trouble-shoot any acute problems that our clients might be experiencing.
  • We have Specialist Directorates & Expertise.
  • We have >2500 General Practice Specialist Associates (GPSAs) available on a national basis.

Worker status

  • GPS only employs permanent staff and GPSAs are employed on a casual worker basis.
  • You can view all our vacancies via the current vacancies page.
  • Most GPSAs work for GPS in addition to their normal place of work.
  • Some GPSAs have retired but still want to work flexibly in order to maintain their professional registration.

What to expect at an interview

If you are offered an interview, these are ordinarily held via Microsoft teams and we will ask you to advise us on the following:

  • Your specialities.
  • Your strength and weaknesses.
  • Your leadership qualities.
  • Your preferred hours of work.
  • Your preferred days of work.
  • Your willingness to travel and if so, the distance.
  • Your preferred clinical system.

If you're successful in your application

  • We will run all the appropriate background checks such as employment references, professional registration, and DBS checks. (This usually takes approximately four weeks)
  • We will arrange an induction and initiate all the necessary onboarding processes.
  • We will launch a ‘professional cupid service’ and match your preferences with those of our clients.
  • We will send your HR file to the matched client for their assurance and records.
  • We will introduce you to our client and services will commence.

When a fixed-term contract comes to an end

  • Our mobilisation team would have already aligned you to a new client.
  • You will not be required to go through induction and onboarding process again.
  • We will send your HR file to the newly matched client for their assurance and records.
  • We will introduce you to our client and services will commence.

Benefits of working for General Practice Solutions

GPSAs also have the opportunity to supplement their ordinary income through additional work sourced by GPS. Our clients often seek flexible working via contracts varying in longevity thus well suited to meet the needs of many.

  • Working hours moulded around your commitments.
  • Consistent work.
  • Professional development and training opportunities.
  • Annual appraisals to supplement your professional / ordinary place of work appraisals.
  • A good home / work life balance.
  • GPS affiliation benefits such a discounted gym membership.

Training and development

Upon successful recruitment, GPSAs will attend a one-day GPS Academy workshop to gain an insight into the operational functions of our organisation and the powerful tools we use to ensure the success of our clients. Dependent on need and changing governance, further in-person training or e-learning will be provided.

GPSA commitment

GPSAs are appointed on a NIL hours basis and our Flexible Workforce Office (FWO) will routinely seek the availability of GPSAs. Remuneration is detailed on our current vacancies page.
